What is action plan?

-It is a checklist for the task that needs to be completed so that achieving the goals you have set will be realized. 

What are the components of an action plan?

The components of action plan include: tasks that  need to be carried out to reach the goal, a well-defined description of the goal to be achieved, people who will be in charge of carrying out each task, resources needed to complete the tasks, measures to evaluate progress and when will these tasks be completed (deadlines). 

Why do we need action plan?

The usual question that arises; why do you need action plan? Actually, in business, it plays a vital role and it is an essential recipe for success. Based on the surveys, the reason why business fails because they do not spend much time on developing an action plan. Benjamin Franklin once said," Failing to plan is planning to fail." Then why would you not doing this action plan when you know that it is very important in every endeavor that we have to improve our business or to give solution to the problem in our workplace?

What are the best practices in writing action plan?

In writing an action plan, there are important steps in order to come up with the best action plan that you ever have.

Here are the steps on how to write it:

Step 1. Defining your end goal. You must start defining where you are and where you want to be. In short, you must analyze the situation, do some brainstorming to explore the possible solution to the problem. 

To avoid confusion or to achieve your goal, you must learn how to prioritize things or be sure that your objectives of your action plan follow the SMART criteria. What is smart criteria? It must be:

SPECIFIC- you goal must be well-defined and clear. 

MEASURABLE - to track your progress, it must include measurable indicators. 

ATTAINABLE - it must achievable within the resources, time and money. 

RELEVANT - it must be related and align with your other goals and lastly;

TIMELY - it must have a finishing date. 

Step 2. Writing down the steps to be followed. List down all the tasks to be performed. 

Step 3. Prioritizing the task and set deadlines, so that you have a target on when to finish your project. 

Step 4. Setting milestones. What are milestones? These are the specific points along with project timeline. These are your short term goals that lead to your overall objectives. What is the advantage of milestones? It gives the team members to look forward to something and help them stay motivated to meet the deadlines. 

Step 5. Identifying the resources needed. Ensure that you have all the necessary resources to complete the tasks. You can assign a column of your action plan to mark the cost of each task if there is any. 

Step 6. Visualizing your action plan. May your action plan comes in the shape of a flowchart, Gantt chart or table, make sure that it clearly communicates the elements you have identified. 

Step 7. Monitoring, evaluating and updating. Spending time to evaluate the progress you have made with your team. You can mark tasks that are completed as done on this final action plan and to show them the progress toward the goal.
