ATTENDING DEPED GATHERINGS: 5 TEACHERS DIED DUE TO COVID-19

As Inter-Agency Task Force always reminding us," Mass gatherings, including those for religious purposes will be prohibited..." This must always be observed at all times, especially this pandemic time to curb the spread of the virus.

The Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 of Isabela is deeply concerned after the death of five public teachers due to a coronavirus infection. They allegedly contracted while attending the assembly.

In the social media advisory of the Task Force, it pointed out to the death of two Schools District Supervisors and three other teachers in various towns in Isabela in the past 10 days.

It was found out from the Task Force meeting yesterday at the office of Governor Rodolfo Albano III in Ilagan City that those teachers contracted the COVID-19 virus while attending face-to-face gatherings called by the department from March 16-22 in various places.

As a result, a comprehensive contact tracing among teachers was launched by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to identify up to third generation contacts of the deceased teachers.

DILG Isabela Director Cora Toribio said the move is to curb the spread of the virus and the imminent death of many more.

Contrary to DepEd's initial statement that barangay officials were distributing the learning modules, the department suspended its distribution and collection of modules for fear that more of their teachers could catch the virus. This is due to the increasing number of COVID-19 hotspots in Isabela.

It was last month; 15 public school teachers in Zambales were contracted the virus attending series face-to-face seminars by DepEd at two resorts in Iba town.
